The last château I visited was Prieuré Lichine. What a beautiful winery! Château Prieuré-Lichine is a Great Classified Growth located in the heart of Margaux appellation (Bordeaux area, France). With 173 acres of vineyards, the Château is produces three red wines and a white wine
The vine-covered older building sitting alongside renovated modern buildings was so pretty. There is a collection of fireplace backs- over a hundred lining the walls of the buildings. This was an unscheduled visit, but one I am happy to have stumbled upon. The Merlot grapes had just been brought in from the vineyards and were going through the first sorting stages. Our guide brought us to the fermentation/vinification area where the huge concrete vats stood waiting for their precious cargo. Then it was down to the cellar to view the awaiting barrels.
After visiting the cellar, which holds the large format and older vintage bottles, several antique tools and some equipment used in the wine making process, we headed back upstairs for our tasting. All were quite good…my favorite being the white! Perhaps it was the warm, sunny day that influenced my taste buds, but I truly felt it was the best. The reds were delicious, but my suitcase was already getting quite full, so only 1 bottle traveled home with me…this time! If I choose to arrive by helicopter on my next visit, I can…they have a helicopter pad on the roof of the tasting room!
