January 28th I had the pleasure of attending the 2012 Grands Crus de Bordeaux tasting in Chicago. What a wonderful experience! While I enjoyed all the wines, several stood out and are worth mentioning.
Château Beau Séjour Bécot-M Julien Barthe-informative, personable, charming. His Premier Grand Cru from St. Emilion…lovely! Another charming man from Pessac-Léognan, M Daina Paulin, had a well balanced red from Château Haut-Bailly, Grand Cru classé. Being a lover of white Bordeaux wines, Château Carbonnieux ‘ 65% sauvignon blanc/35% sémillion was a tasty, refreshing joy! There were so many other superb wines from every region. I do have what I consider the “best of show” – Château Pichon Baron-Pichon-Longueville! M Jean-René Matignon is a master winemaker.
