If you are here in the Midwest like me then you know how cold it is…freezing is a better description! How about trying a mulled wine to warm up after being outside! I prefer to make my own, although there are options available in stores. Start with a good, fruit forward, dry red wine. Add your favorite spices…cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, cardamon seeds…whatever you love! Some of these can be overwhelming, so remember, a little goes a long way. Simmer on low until heated through. (Your kitchen will smell delicious! ) You can also add fresh orange, apple, or pear slices while it simmers to add a bit more depth. I’ve even used fresh cranberries!
You can also make this in a slow cooker/crock pot, again on low heat. This will take a bit longer to heat, but it will remain available for the drinking for a longer period of time. You can add sugar per your personal taste. Enjoy and stay warm!
